Runway Report: Christian Dior Cruise 2016

Yesterday at Pierre Cardins Le Palais Bulles, a seaside palace made up of terracotta bubbles between Cannes and Monaco, Raf Simons presented his Cruise 2016 collection for Christian Dior. A star studded front row that included Marion Cotillard, Dakota Fanning, & Zoe Kravitz (Marion & Zoe both have films screening at the Cannes Film Festival starting tomorrow) took in an ultra modern yet 1960's throwback style collection. What I loved about this collection was that Raf continued with themes that were presented with his Spring 2015 Couture and Fall 2015 RTW collection. The bold Ikat style prints held their own against plaids and checks. There was also a lot of taking masculine style fabrics and making them ultra feminine, which has been a trend that I am totally on board with. The bags were alright, some bold and some blah; and the shoes were pretty bad. This seems to be a pattern with Raf at Dior. I either love the accessories and dislike the clothes or vice versa. I am hoping that when the Dior darlings premiere their films during the Cannes Film Festival, that they showcase the more glamorous side of Dior that was severely lacking in this collection.
